I’ve worked digitally for many years. Since 2022 I’ve investigated AI systems, mostly Midjourney. It’s a text-to-image program — you type in some words (the “prompt”) and it searches its database for some image that might correspond to the words in the prompt. I see a parallel to the human system of visual perception: There’s a rather modest input from your eyes; your brain searches its database for a corresponding image. Its database is enormous compared that of Midjourney — it consists of every moment of your life! In both cases, however, if the system doesn’t find a match, it makes something up! That’s where it gets fascinating.

I’m heavily influenced by Bay Area Funk, and by outsider, self-taught eccentric artists, and I enjoy the irony of using high technology to create decidedly low-tech images.Replace this with your Artist Statement
